Why Prism?

Understanding the need of Prism and why crafting a personal design system offers substantial key insights and workflow efficiency hacks

Prism design system offers everything I thought missing from the various current design ecosystem. It offers-

  1. Consistency while leveraging new Figma features and technologies

  2. Methodology and cookbook for future expansion

  3. Minimal and timeless design style

  4. Customizability on the atomic level

Core Idea behind Prism

The core idea of Prism took place when my department alum; Shayak Sen, who also happens to be Head of Design of Myntra came to my institute to take a lecture on "Algorithmic breakdown of Product Design".

Shayak Sen's lecture on Algorithmic Design

Few slides deep into the presentation he started to explain how design system and user behavior can be algorithmically broken into small rules and layers.

This begs the question, i.e., Is there any design system that systematically explains these rules in a design system?

After having a brief chat with Shayak, he explained that there is no design system to explain this methodology and I should try to build such a design system to explain these fundamental rules

Why not ready made systems?

Perfecting a design system is a never ending process. As a result, this forces designers to ask questions and figure out the rationale behind each design decisions made.

This is in stark contrast to the general workflow of mindlessly using a over-the-top design systems regardless of the fact whether it fits the context of the project or not.

Personal Identity

A well thought out design system reflects personal taste at individual level and robust consistency at enterprise level; while providing smooth experience at user level

This is not to say that a personal design always fits the vibe of the project., it requires serious considerations and meticulous to-and-fro but that's the fun of having your own design system. It is easily customizable to the last details.
